This would be great to use when you are working on the book or for Roald Dahl Day.
Having read about the creatures that James meets inside the peach, ask your class to carry out research on Mini-beasts. Provide them with books and access to the Internet.
After this, give the children their blank leaflet. You will need to print pages 2 and 3, double-sided for each child.
To help your class to understand what they should put in each section, either print off pages 5 and 6, where I have suggested what might go in each box, or show the children on an interactive screen.
Pages 7 and 8 are a set of pictures which will fit in the boxes on the sheets. Some are cartoons and some are photographs. Print off a set of these pictures 1 between 2 or 3 children. If they cut them out, they will fit in the picture squares. Alternatively, they could draw their own pictures in the boxes.
I hope that you enjoy using this resource.
The Tiki Teacher
This is a set of 8 guided reading lessons on The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. It is aimed at middle ability Year 3/4 or Low ability Year 5/6. For each session there is some reading to do and a set of questions.
There is a section for vocabulary that the children might find difficult. There is a space to jot down the answers that the children give, as well as room to note down absences and reading diaries and any additional notes.
For Year 6 children during revision for the SATs. 30 questions on Grammar and Punctuation (with answer grid for pupils and teacher) to print, laminate and place around the school buildings and grounds. The children then go out and find the questions, work out the answers and write the answers on their answer grid.
This resource includes: A Powerpoint presentation and PDF.
It has a Powerpoint presentation with instructions on planning for the poems to include - nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs for Year 3/4 with similes and metaphors extra to add for Y5/6. The pupils look at and discuss the larger pictures on the PPT, then they choose one that they will write about. The Powerpoint includes 13 underwater images, from basking sharks to garden eels.
From the PDF, print off the same pictures as on the PPT, there are Y3/4 versions and Y5/6 versions - the pupils show in different colours which word class they are writing and fill in the key at the side. Included in the PDF is a completed Y3/4 version and completed Y5/6 example.
When the pupils have completed these sheets, they then use them to write a poem using the great images that they have created.
Quizzes on 6 Roald Dahl books for younger Juniors. Set as challenges in the run up to Roald Dahl day, 13th September, or run them as a quiz on the day.
This bundle comprises:
- A checklist of Michael Morpurgo titles for Year 6
- 8 quizzes with answers
- A book review sheet
- A certificate
These badges are intended to widen the genres of books that children read. For the genre, the children read 3 titles from the list. They then complete the quiz and a book review for each title that they have read. After this, they work on a creative piece for each book, such as: a picture of their favourite character; a new cover or a story map. When all of the tasks are complete, the children receive their certificate. These can be printed and laminated.
